Hacer Group is proud to partner with Frasers Property Australia in constructing the Burwood Brickworks Shopping Centre, situated in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. Designed by Melbourne-based architect NH Architecture, the ambitious project is targeting not only an Australian retail first 6 Star Green Star Design and As Built rating, but also recognition as the world’s most sustainable shopping centre through full Living Building Challenge certification.
Meeting several lofty Living Building Challenge requirements, the shopping centre through both on-site and off-site renewables, will generate 105% of the energy required for the building, see net positive water use which will reduce the reliance on existing stormwater and sewer systems, utilise a substantial number of local, salvaged and sustainable materials and ensure a minimum of 90% of construction waste is diverted from landfill.
Anchored by major tenants Woolworths and Dan Murphy’s, the 12,700 sqm sustainable shopping centre also has a cinema, child care centre, medical central and health and fitness operators as proposed tenants. Additionally, the centre includes provisions for a community space that will host programs and annual open days to educate the community on the unique aspects of the Burwood Brickworks Shopping Centre.
